The police personnel in Armenia accused of stealing books from the National Library

A Special Investigative service in Armenia is carrying out investigation on a criminal case of theft of books from the National Library and the library of Yerevan State University in 2010-2011. There are six figurants in the case, including two policemen and a citizen of Georgia.

According to the investigation, in 2010-2011 policeman E. Gambaryan who safeguarded the National Library and V. Azariashvili, citizen of Georgia, regularly penetrated into the book depository of the National Library and stole over 150 books. One of the attempts of theft took place on December, 26, 2011, but the four persons who entered the depository were detained.

There are also evidences that Director of the library of Yerevan State University sold Azariashvili 19 books and misappropriated the money he received, IA "Arminfo" reports.

The department manager is accused of misappropriation and the rest five persons, including the two policemen and the citizen of Georgia, are accused theft or attempt of theft, NEWS.am reports.

The total cost of the stolen books made several million drams. Investigation on the case of theft on an especially large scale in going on.

The position of the defendants or their attorneys is yet unknown.
