Vladikavkaz residents complain to PCRF about emissions of "Electrozink"

Residents of the capital of North Ossetia appealed to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation (PCRF) with a complaint of resumption of harmful emissions into the atmosphere by the plant "Electrozink". The "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) confirmed the facts of pollution of the environment in Vladikavkaz.

According to people, who called to "the hot line" of the PCRF, the plant again increased its emissions into the atmosphere.

Residents also asked to render assistance in obtaining information on the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the city of Vladikavkaz on December 15 and 20 and on the compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation in the sphere of environment protection, including air protection, the PCRF's website reports.

The "Rospotrebnadzor" confirmed the fact of exceeding MPC (maximum permissible concentration) in the air of Vladikavkaz in those days. In fact, the automated twenty-four-hour air monitoring station "SCAT" has registered deterioration of air quality.

During 10 days - on December 12-22 - in 20 cases, exceeding of the maximum single MPC of sulphur dioxide by 1.1-3.5 times was observed; in 8 cases, exceeding of the above indicator of carbon monoxide by 1.1 times was observed. On some days, at 3:00-7:00 p.m., exceeding of the maximum single MPC of carbon monoxide by 1.7-2 times, of nitrogen dioxide - by 4 times, ammonia - by 3 times, ethanol - by 1.2 times was observed. This was reported by the official report of the agency, published on the website of the newspaper "North Ossetia".

The facts concern the situation on the days of December 13-18, Sergey Golomzik, Assistant Director for Public Relations of the plant, explained. However, according to Sergey Golomzik, on those days, in the atmosphere of Vladikavkaz, ten-fold exceeding of harmful substances, not attributable to the production process of the plant "Electrozink", was registered, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
