Apti and Aishat Magomadovs' defence intends to appeal against verdict of guilty

Lawyers of Apti Magmadov and Aishat Magmadova intend to appeal against the verdict against their clients. They will also insist on full court's acquittal of their client and his sister, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Announcement of the verdict began with 15-minute delay and lasted for about 5 minutes.

Panel of three judges found Aishat Magmadova guilty of an action under Part 1 of Article 205 (terror act) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced her to two years of imprisonment sentence in a minimum security colony. The defendant has been almost two years in custody and on January 19 she will be released, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Apti Magmadov was found guilty of two of three episodes. Under Part 1 of Article 208 (organizing of an illegal armed formation) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment, and under Part 1 of Article 205 he was also sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. By aggregation and by partial summation of sentences, he was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in minimum security colony. Apti Magmadov was acquitted under Part 2 of Article 208 (participation in an armed formation) of the Criminal Code, in connection with the lack of material elements of offence.

At the end of the announcement, the lawyers stated that they would challenge the verdict against Apti Magmadov. They will also insist on the full court's acquittal of their client of his sister, to recognize her innocent and removed a criminal record from her.

Today's session of the Moscow Regional Court, at which the verdict was announced, was held in public. It was attended by Tamara Magmadova, the defendants' mother.

Upon hearing the verdict, Apti and Aishat Magmadov were glad, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"My son confessed to investigators in exchange for a promise that his sister would be released; so, they are glad that she will be released in three weeks," explained Tamara Magomadova, the Magmadov's mother.
