Eight workers in Timashevsk are on a hunger strike in protest against non-payment of wages

A hunger strike of eight builders of a trimmers' team who were reconditioning neurology unit of Timashevsk district hospital is going on in the town of Timashevsk, Krasnodar region. The workers demand from "Yug-S" company to settle accounts with the team for the work they have done.

According to team leader Vitaly Kazakeev, at the end of September the team was hired by a company from Anapa which won the tender on reconditioning the hospital.

"We concluded no labour contract and only had an oral agreement on the prices. In the end we got no salary at all. According to our calculation, they must pay us 473 thousand rubles but the master is talking of 159 thousand promising to pay off the sum by the end of this week", Vitaly Kazakeev said.

According to him, on December, 16, eight workers went on a hunger strike right in the neurology unit where they had worked. In the daytime they went out with posters to the building of the hospital and local Administration and returned in the evening. They also submitted statements to Public prosecutor and Labour inspection.

"We see no reaction to our protest yet, so the hunger strike will be continued", "Yugopolis" quotes Kazakeev.

Today the action of protest is going in the open air.

"The hunger strike was continued in the building of district Administration from where the workers were moved away. Local authorities refused to provide the strikers with a premises to continue the action. Neither did they provide a physician who would take control of the state of their health. The workers have to continue the action of protest outdoors where they set a tent and are going on with the action", Evgeny Ivanov, First Secretary of Timashevsk district committee of KPRF party, said.

According to him, General Director and personnel manager of "Yug-S" company had come to Timashevsk but they refused to fulfil the workers' requirements. The strikers were also visited by representatives of Kuban police who took explanation from the workers and drew up a protocol, "Novosti Krasnodar 93.ru" reports.
