300 people in Stavropol went out to a meeting “For honest election”

On Sunday, December, 18, a meeting against forgery and election fraud was held in Stavropol. According to official data, about 300 local residents took part in it.

On the eve of the meeting a memorandum “For honest election” circulated about the region. It was signed by regional branches of KPRF, LDPR and “Yabloko” parties, non-governmental organizations “Russian Unity of the Caucasus”, “Cossack Caucasian Line”, “Union of Free Cossacks”, “Union of Slavic communities of Slavic native Faith”, “Regional Union of Stavropol Communists”, movements “Right-wing Alliance”, “Labour Russia”, Protest Committee of Stavropol and others.

Members of a recently formed movement “Patriots of Stavropol Region” integrating young businessmen and representatives of middle class who demand modernization of political system in the region also took part in the action.

The participants unfolded posters with slogans “December, 4, is a day of shame!”, “State service is the most profitable business today!” “Russia without Putin!”, “EDROSes polled votes by stuffing!” (“EDROSes” – members of “United Russia”), “Dishonest election is a way to Egypt!”, “Stavropol region is a territory of arbitrary rule!”.

The major participants’ demands were read out by Sergey Popov, Chairman of Public Chamber of Stavropol, leader of “Russian Unity of the Caucasus”. They were: immediate nullification of the election in Stavropol region, resignation of Valery Gaevsky, Governor of Stavropol region, total replacement of heads of all the 1282 divisional and 37 territorial election committees in Stavropol region.

There were also slogans not connected with the election at the meeting, such as a demand to “freeze” the tariffs on public utilities and reduce the costs of automobile fuel in the region.

The meeting was authorized by the authorities of Stavropol. During the action the police applied serious security measures: everyone was let pass to the square only through the frame of radio-metal locator and about ten cynologists with guard dogs were working along the perimeter.
