Supporters of Alla Djioeva end protest in South Ossetia

Today, supporters of Alla Djioeva, the former presidential candidate and the leader of South Ossetian opposition, have finished their protest action in the centre of Tskhinvali. However, they intend to continue it on December 18.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that about 200 supporters of Alla Djioeva gathered at the protest rally in South Ossetia.

"The protesters have decided to stop their action, since it was not sanctioned by the authorities. We intend to formally apply to the authorities for appropriate permission and hold a rally on December 18, if the points of agreement are not met," stated Sergey Zasseev, one of the opposition leaders.

According to him, that day was a working day, and the opposition failed to gather all its supporters; however, the protest action can get a larger scale in the weekend, the "Res" reports.

"On December 20, opposition activists will meet Vadim Brovtsev, Acting President of South Ossetia," said Alan Pliev, a supporter of Alla Djioeva.

Alan Pliev also asked the audience to disperse, and his request was met. At present, there are no people in the central square, except workers, who place the Republic's Christmas tree, the "Ossetian Radio and Television" reports.

Let us remind you that earlier, Alla Djioeva has stated that the decision to continue protest actions was caused by the denial of the Republic's Parliament to dismiss the General Prosecutor and Chairman of the Supreme Court. Let us remind you that the resignation of Taimuraz Khugaev, General Prosecutor, and Atsamaz Bichenov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of South Ossetia, was one of the points of the agreement signed on December 10 between Eduard Kokoity, ex-President of South Ossetia, and Alla Djioeva, ex-presidential candidate.

Participation of Alla Djioeva in the second presidential election scheduled for March 25, 2012 was a part of agreement with the authorities; however, on December 14, Atsamaz Bichenov reported that the issue of participation of the opposition leader in the second election had not been solved. In response, Alla Djioeva stated that Atsamaz Bichenov and the MPs, who refused to dismiss him, had violated agreements concluded with Russia's intermediation.
