Nino Burdjanadze discussed ways of Georgian-Abkhazian settlement with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Georgia

On December 4, Acting President of Georgia Nino Burdjanadze and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Georgia Heidi Tagliavini discussed the problem of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict settlement. The parties stressed it was necessary that negotiations between Tbilisi and Sukhumi on the conflict settlement should continue, Heidi Tagliavini told journalists after the meeting. She also announced she had delivered a letter from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to Ms. Burdjanadze. The letter contained proposals on the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict settlement. Ms. Tagliavini did not concretize them, emphasizing that the matter concerned only peaceful solutions to the problem.

On December 5, Heidi Tagliavini is leaving for Sukhumi to hold consultations with the Abkhazian leadership.
