Human rights activist Basmanov in Sochi arrested for a five-day's term

Human rights activist Sergey Basmanov, Director of organization "Protection of the citizen's rights and legal interests" detained in Sochi on December, 10, was arrested and is now in a temporary isolation ward.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that Basmanov was detained during an action of protest against dishonest election. Over 300 people with white ribbons and bandages with an inscription "My vote is stolen!" stuck on their mouths gathered in the square across the street from the railway station of Sochi.

After the detention Basmanov was delivered to magistrate Agavny Podkopaeva, magistracy No 98, where a charge of disobedience to the police on December, 4, in a precinct election commission and also hiding himself from investigation was brought against him. Judge Podkopaeva granted Basmanov's motion to summon eyewitnesses and postponed the trial without specifying its date.

After that the police of Khosta district took Basmanov to Investigative Committee of Khosta where he was interrogated by investigator Semisenko, then he was again delivered to Central police department, Gorky street, 60. Basmanov was kept there until 15:00 of the following day.

According to the personnel of police standby unit of Central district, Basmanov was taken to magistrate Alexander Mandrykin, magistracy No 100.

Deputy judge Sergey Kunin told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that detained Sergey Basmanov was acknowledged guilty according to clause 19.3 of Code of administrative violations of the Russian Federation, i.e. insubordination to legal demands of a policeman at the moment of his detention on December, 10, near the building of TSUM (Central department store). Defendant Basmanov was sentenced to 5 days of administrative arrest.

According to Kunin, Basmanov filed an appeal against Madrykin's judgment which was referred to duty federal judge Vladislav Vlasenko in the court of the Central district. Judge Vlasenko's secretary said that the date of hearing would be specially announced.
