"Mothers' Alert" from Chechnya fails to come to rally in Moscow

The Chechen regional public organization "Mothers' Alert", which has earlier declared its participation in the rally "For Fair Elections" on December 10 in Moscow, was unable to participate in the protest action due to lack of money to purchase tickets to Moscow, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Zainab Mezhidova, the head of the organization.

The organization unites mothers of young people kidnapped in the territory of the Chechen Republic.

"We planned to raise at the rally the problem, which cannot be solved in Chechnya itself. We have repeatedly organized rallies there, appealed to the leadership of the republic, asking to help find kidnapped and missing people. However, no response followed. The problem exists since the military campaigns in the republic's territory, and it has not been solved till present. Our children disappeared, and they continue to disappear. We wanted to be listened to in Moscow; however, we failed to come because of lack of money for tickets to Moscow," says Zainab Mezhidova.

According her, the demand of the "Mothers' Alert" will be announced at the rally in Moscow by the "Human Rights Centre of Chechen Republic", the other human rights organization. Mikail Ezhiev, the head of the "Human Rights Centre of Chechen Republic" has confirmed the information that he is going to participate in the rally in Bolotnaya Square in Moscow.

According to the "Mothers' Alert", which exists in Chechnya since 1994, till present, in the republic, about 5000 persons are still registered as kidnapped and missing, "and this is only an approximate figure."
