Personnel of Azerbaijani newspaper "Khural" claim being threatened

Journalists of the Azerbaijani oppositional newspaper "Khural" reported on threats coming to their address from unidentified persons.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has also reported on the message of the staff members of the newspaper "Khural" addressed to Ramil Usubov, Azerbaijani Minister of Internal Affairs, asking to ensure the journalists' safety. The staff members of the newspaper claimed "direct threats of physical violence" pronounced by the MP Gular Akhmedova.

According to the staff members of the edition, yesterday, on December 7, at about 01:00 p.m. local time, an unidentified man called to the mobile phone number of the editor Anar Makhmudoglu and threatened to kill his children. The phone call was recorded.

"Recently, you have ventured too far, and you write too critically. We will cut you to pieces," the "Contact.Az" quotes the threats. The edition stresses that the caller also mentioned the journalist' daughters. "We know where they study, at what time they leave the house and which route they use."

According to the staff members of the newspaper, several minutes later the same man called to the mobile phone of Nuraddin Khodja, another editor of the edition, and threatened to punish him for his attempt to publish the new newspaper "ASI".

The journalists claim that the caller spoke in the Nakhichevan dialect.

The staff members of the newspaper filed a written complaint on the fact of received threats to the police station of the Narimanov District of Baku. At present, the response of the law enforcement agencies is not available.

Let us note that yet in late November in connection with the cases of pressure on the staff members of the newspaper "Khural" the Council of Editors of Azerbaijan has prepared an appeal to Ramil Usubov, Azerbaijani Minister of Internal Affairs, asking to investigate the situation, the "SalamNews" reports.
