A three-kilometer’s traffic jam emerged in North Ossetia

A three-kilometer’s queue of cargo transport emerged in the Russian-Georgian border, in the neighbourhood of the settlement of Chmi.

On November, 23, a crowding of cargo transport appeared in the neighbourhood of the settlement of Chmi, in three kilometers distance from ”Verkhny Lars” transport checkpoint, near the Russian border.

“A heating point was set and is functioning near “Verkhny Lars” checkpoint where the drivers can warm themselves and take some hot tea”, “Interfax” quotes a source in the frontier department.

As of November, 25, hundreds of waggons were blocked at “Verkhny Lars” checkpoint because of traffic limitations. Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the drivers of the trucks and other vehicles found themselves in a very difficult situation: in fact, they are forced to live “in the field in the winter time”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia demanded explanation from Georgia on the reason of closing “Verkhny Lars” checkpoint.

On the same day Shota Utiashvili, Head of Analytic department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Georgia, reported that traffic limitations through “Kazbegi - Verkhny Lars” checkpoint were connected with rich snow precipitation, “IPN” reports.

According to Utiashvili, motor traffic through the checkpoint has been limited for already several days because of snowfall, in particular, traffic is forbidden for trailing vehicles.
