Georgia declares termination of its commitments under CFE Treaty in relation to Russia

Georgia terminates its obligations with regard to Russia, undertaken within the framework of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), runs the statement the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

"Starting November 29, Georgia terminates the following commitments with respect to Russia: from now on, the Georgian party will not provide Russia with information within the annual information exchange, which was conducted under the CFE Treaty; Georgia will no longer provide any reports to Russia within the framework of the CFE Treaty; and Georgia will no longer accept inspections requested by Russia within the framework of the CFE Treaty," the MFA's statement has emphasized.

Tbilisi has noted that "while recognizing the contribution of the CFE Treaty in establishing a stable and secure environment in an area of its scope of operation, Georgia will continue fulfilling its obligations to all other parties of the Treaty, except for Russia," the "Interfax" reports.

"Georgia also supports and is ready to take part in consultations aimed to restore the regime of conventional arms control in Europe," the "News-Georgia" quotes the MFA's statement.
