In Adygea, over thousand visually impaired persons take part in "White Stick" action

In the traditional action named "White Stick", organized by the Adygea Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Invalids "All-Russian Society of the Blind" (ARSB), was attended by more than a thousand visually impaired invalids.

"In many regions of Russia the action was held from October 15 to November 15, but we decided to extend it till December 3, when the World Day of Disabled Persons is marked, although the main events within the action are over," said Mariet Mashina, Chair of the local ARSB Branch.

According to her story, the aim of the action was to "surround the people with disabilities on sight with special attention and care."

Within the campaign the primary units of the ARSB Branch held contests in Braille reading, competitions in sports accessible for visually handicapped persons, and concerts with participation of artistic groups of municipalities.

They also raised funds for visually impaired patients. The money will be spent on drugs and surgeries for those who need them, and to carry out general rehabilitation actions."

"People need to understand that blind people don't live in some parallel world; a fifth part of the world population are people; and that we shouldn't be felt for, but accepted as equals. These concerts, where we show our creativity and admire others' skills, are a good help," Ruslan Khakuy, a member of the ARSB, has shared his opinion.
