Dagestani residents commemorate victims of 1996 terror act in Kaspiisk

The city of Kaspiisk in Dagestan hosted mourning events to mark the 15th anniversary of the terror act, which killed 68 persons.

Let us remind you that on November 16, 1996, in Kaspiisk the house inhabited by families of Russian border guards from the Caspian special border unit was blown up. 68 people, including 21 children, were killed, and 8 children became orphans.

"Mourning events started in the morning, flowers were laid at the monument built on the place of the destroyed house. A small rally was also held there," the RIA "Novosti" quotes a representative of the city administration as saying.

"The terrorists failed to break the spirit of the border guards," said Major General Alexander Ektov, Deputy Head of the Border Guards Department of the FSB of Russia in Dagestan, who opened the rally.

The memory of the victims of the terror act was commemorated by one minute's silence. Later, the Caspian church held civil memorial service, the RIA "Dagestan" reports.

"Life goes on. However, we feel shame and bitterness that till now nobody has been punished for the bombing of our house. The investigators keep silence; the investigation has not been finished yet "due to failure to find a person to be brought to court as a defendant," the "Stavropol Pravda" quotes Elena Zalova, who lost her husband and three sons in the terror act, as saying.
