Mass detentions in Makhachkala

On November 13 in the village of Shamkhal station of Kirov District of Makhachkala mass detentions of residents were conducted. At least 5 detainees were kept in the building of the OVD (Interior Division) of the village.

Tazhudin Djalilov, born in 1974, Arsen Ubaidullaev, born in 1986, Ali Abakarov, born in 1992, Timur Sheikhov, born in 1984, Kurban Maksudov, born in 1985, and Shikhsaid Aliev, born in 1977, were detained. Ramazan Rabadanov and Bagaudin Bagaudinov, the detainee's lawyers, reported on the incident to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. Besides, the lawyers stated that they had not been allowed to meet the detainees.

"Local police officers took my client Tazhudin Djalilov away from his house without any explanations. I was hired by his relatives," said Ramazan Rabadanov. According to him, he went to the building of the village OVD to meet his client; however, police officers "did not want even to talk to him."

His colleague said that he defended Arsen Ubaidullaev and that he also could not meet his client, since the police officers of the village police station hampered that. According to Bagaudin Bagaudinov, none of the police officers answered questions or responded to the presented documents.

Magomed Magomedov, a local resident, reported that a spontaneous rally was held near the building of the police station. According to him, about 150 people attended the rally. The situation was exacerbated by the fact that the detainee's lawyers were not allowed to meet their clients. According to Magomed Magomedov, there were rumours that the detainees were beaten and tortured.

In their turn, police officers of the unit on duty of the OVD of Kirov District of Makhachkala and of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan stated that they knew nothing about the incident.
