The Armenian of Istanbul collected 40 thousand liras for the victims of the earthquake in the province of Van

The Armenian of Istanbul collected forty thousand Turkish liras for the people who got injured in an earthquake in the Turkish province of Van. On November, 7, new earthquake shocks were registered in the region.

On November, 7, Bishop Taul Anushyan, Leader of Religious Board of Constantinople Armenian Patriarchate, personally delivered the donations of the Armenian community of Istanbul for the people injured by the powerful earthquake on October, 23, in Van, to the regional Administration of the province.

Press service of Constantinople Armenian Patriarchate reported that in the district Administration Anushyan was received by Vice-Governor of the province Atar Uslu. Leader of Religious Board of Constantinople Armenian Patriarchate handed the Vice-Governor 40 thousand Turkish liras collected by the Armenian community of Istanbul, "News.am" reports.

Meanwhile, on the same evening, November, 7, new earthquake shocks were registered in the province. Two earthquakes happened at 17:53 local time and 18 minutes later one after another.

The epicenter of the earthquakes magnitude 4,7 and 4,3 points respectively was located in the settlement of Karagunduz. Two buildings which had been in disrepair after the powerful earthquake of October, 23, collapsed as a result, "Milliyet" reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that an earthquake magnitude 7,2 points occurred on October, 23, in the Turkish province of Van. The epicenter was in 38 kilometers distance to the North-East of Van. 604 people perished and over 4000 got wounded as a result. Buildings, including Armenian churches, were damaged.

After the earthquake aid was received from a number of countries. Armenia sent an airplane with humanitarian aid to Turkey.

Two airplanes of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan delivered 250 tents, 3000 blankets, 700 field sleeping sets, 2000 sleeping sets, two field kitchens and articles of prime necessity to the region of disaster. On October, 29, a caravan with humanitarian aid arrived in Turkey from Azerbaijan. The total sum of aid rendered by Azerbaijan to Turkey made 1 million 800 thousand US dollars.

45 Azerbaijani rescuers with the necessary equipment took a plane for Van to help the victims of the earthquake of October, 23. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani rescuers pulled out of the blockages 60 dead bodies and 12 people who survived after the earthquake. They accomplished their rescue operation on November, 1.
