North-Ossetian MPs offer tougher responsibility for disinformation on the Internet

Parliamentarians of North Ossetia offer to toughen sanctions for spreading false information on the Internet. This was discussed at the sitting of the Board of the Parliament on November 3.

According to North-Ossetian legislators, the federal government should pay attention to online detractors and make changes to the Criminal Code, the GTRK (State TV and Radio Company) "Alania" reports.

Earlier in September, the lawmakers of the Kemerovo Region declared their intention to seek for tougher penalties for online dissemination of false information and defamation. The reason for the initiative was in the rumours about death of Governor Aman Tuleev. The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports that even the Interpol was involved in the inquiry into the source of the Internet rumours about Tuleev's death.

According to Alan Tskhurbaev, a blogger of the "Caucasian Knot", it is nice that local MPs began to worry about responsibility for disinformation on the Internet; it means that they "feel some discomfort," since the criticism reaches them from the web; and it is OK," writes the blogger.
