A photo exhibition devoted to the war in South Ossetia will be opened in Moscow

Photo exhibition "August. 2008. Art against War" will be opened on November, 3, on the eve of the Day of People's Unity. Works by photojournalists and photos from the archives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation taken during the war of August, 2008, in South Ossetia will be presented there.

"The idea of this exhibition belongs to Alexander Totoonov, Plenipotentiary of RNO-Alania with the President of the Russian Federation", Press secretary of Plenipotentiary mission Irbek Doev said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

RIA "Novosti", the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and the creators of the film "August. 2008" under the guidance of Janik Farziev, its producer, are taking active part in organization of the action together with Plenipotentiary mission.

"The visitors will see quite unique materials telling the story of those tragic days. Being an eyewitness of what was happening in South Ossetia then, I was astounded at how the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations worked, in spite of danger, risking their lives, Irbek Doev shares his reminiscences. - The residents perceived them as their saviours and appealed to them for aid first of all. The visitors will see all these at the exhibition".

Besides, the visitors will come to know works by a famous Ossetian artist Igor Lotiev. He will present his works from a series "Realms of Eternity" devoted to the pantheon of divine beings held sacred in North Ossetia since the ancient times. "The Ossetian have their own epos and saints never depicted by anyone", Lotiev said.

Famous cultural figures and honoured art workers of Russia, North and South Ossetia, Heroes of Russia who took direct part in the events of 2008, management and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will be guests of the action.

The photo exhibition will be opened at 18:00 in a club space "Arma 17".
