In Armenia, policemen detain activist Lala Aslikyan near Government House

In Yerevan, during a protest action held near the government building, policemen detained Lala Aslikyan, a human rights activist, a member of the public organization "Army in Reality".

Let us remind you that on October 27, in the Armenian capital, the police prevented protest actions near the government building. The law enforcement agents built a wall to prevent protesters' approach the Government House, where the meeting took place.

Lala Aslikyan, a member of the public organization "Army in Reality", was detained during a scuffle between policemen and picketers.

When Lala Aslikyan was driven to the police station of the Kentron community, the demonstrators went there to demand her release. The policemen, who stood in front of the police station, cordoned off the building again and demanded the demonstrators to disperse.

Lala Aslikyan was released after having been kept in police station for three hours. The police officers at the police station asked her to sign a document which stated that she had failed to obey the disciplinary request of the policemen; however, Lala Aslikyan refused to sign the protocol, the "ArmToday" reports.

Robert Revazyan, the lawyer of the human rights activist, named the protocol 'groundless'.

After the conflict near the government building and detention of the human rights activist, Alik Sarkisyan, the head of the Armenian Police, stressed that activists often behave unacceptably.

"They behave like insane persons, do not accept any explanations and only shout accusations. I have met with some of them and rendered them assistance. However, it is unacceptable, when the members of the government are being insulted in the street; and I instructed policemen to defend their rights. It occurred that the ministers were afraid to go out through the front door, not to meet the protesters and not to listen to insults addressed to them," the "Arminfo.am" quotes Ali Sarkisyan as saying.
