Azerbaijani journalist Fatullaev to receive CPJ's Award "Freedom of the Press" in New York

Einullah Fatullaev, Azerbaijani journalist and former political prisoner, received invitation from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) to visit New York to attend the International Award "Freedom of the Press".

Let us remind you that the CPJ based in New York in September 2009 has announced awarding Einullah Fatullaev with the prize "Freedom of the Press", along with journalists from Somalia, Sri Lanka, and Tunisia. However, at that time Einullah Fatullaev served his sentence in prison and could not get the prize.

"Now, you will be able to get his prize. On Tuesday, November 22, the 21st ceremony of the Annual International Freedom of the Press Awards will be held in New York at a gala dinner at the "Waldorf-Astoria" Hotel. Laureates from different countries around the world will be guests of honour at this unique event, designed to demonstrate the unity of the media in struggle for freedom of media," stated the invitation received by the journalist from the CPJ.

Einullah Fatullaev intends to go to New York with his father Emin Fatullaev, who several times represented his son at various international events, when Einullah was in prison.

"In New York, I plan to talk to my colleagues, journalists and representatives of the world media and discuss urgent questions of the media development and the protection of journalists' rights," said Einullah Fatullaev to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He also stated that from the USA he would travel to Brussels to the conference of human rights activists to be attended by the laureates of the Andrei Sakharov Prize. The journalist already received an invitation from Jerzy Buzek, the head of the European Parliament.

"In Brussels, I hope to inform the famous human rights activists, representatives of public society and international media about the processes in Azerbaijan, about the problems which democratic society of our country faces today," continued the journalist.

Due to lack of money, Einullah Fatullaev cannot yet resume publication of his editions - the newspapers "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan" (Daily Azerbaijan). However, he continues to be engaged in journalism and publishes his articles at the website of the Azerbaijani branch of the "Radio Freedom".

Besides, Einullah Fatullaev is busy with human rights activities and, together with his associates, he founded the public movement "For Human Rights".
