About 50 militants liquidated in Chechnya since start of this year, power agents assert

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Chechnya, during the first nine months of this year, power agents killed 47 members of the armed underground in the territory of the Chechen Republic, more than 150 militants and their accomplices were detained and persuaded to surrender. According to the "Caucasian Knot" information, based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources, only from the beginning of the year till September, 53 suspected militants were killed in Chechnya, 121 people were detained or came to surrender.

"During the period from this January to this October, special operations conducted in the territory of the republic resulted in destruction of 47 members of the illegal armed formations, including two leaders of armed groupings, one of whom was the international terrorist Khaled al Amirata, known under the name "Mokhannad", who was engaged in training of suicide bombers. Besides, during the last nine months, 126 members of the armed underground and their accomplices were persuaded to surrender," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya.

During this period of time, 39 Chechen power agents were killed and 122 - injured. 35 injured law enforcement agents have been disabled.

The Chechen law enforcement official told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Chechen power agencies suffer major casualties in mine and ground bomb firings rather than in direct confrontation with militants.

Since the beginning of the year, in different parts of the republic power agents also found and destroyed 12 bases of militants and 46 hidings with firearms, explosives and ammunition.

Let us note that, according to the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources, as effective at September 14, since the beginning of the year, in Chechnya law enforcement agencies detained or persuaded to surrender 121 people. 53 members of the armed underground were killed as a result of suicide bombing and actions of power agents.

Furthermore, during the period from January to September 14, in total, 18 people in Chechnya were killed in shelling, bombing, armed clashes and direct attacks. 73 other power agents were wounded.

It is worth mentioning that, in the last several years, the Republic's leadership consistently stresses that total number of militants in Chechnya does not exceed several dozen people. Last time, this was mentioned last week by the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who estimated strength of the armed underground of 47-57 people.
