Ex-Deputy Boss of Transport Department of Russian MIA for NCFD sentenced to one year of conditional imprisonment for bribe

The Proletarsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don announced a verdict to Sergey Levchenko, ex-Deputy Transport Chief of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), who was accused of bribery. This was reported today by the press service of the Southern Transport Prosecutor's Office.

Let us remind you that in this January Sergey Levchenko was detained barehanded with a bribe.

According to the investigators, during the period from November 2010 to January 2011, he received 150 thousand roubles from his subordinate officer from the Makhachkala transport militia. For the money, Colonel rendered "assistance in maintaining the position" with the following transfer to serve in the police agencies.

The indictment brought to the court states that the investigators found marked bank notes at the Levchenko's office. Earlier, the Southern Transport Prosecutor's Office reported that Colonel of Militia also received expensive alcoholic beverages as a bribe.

After his detention, Sergey Levchenko pleaded himself fully guilty and actively cooperated with the authorities in the investigation. By request of the defence, the case was considered in a particular order. The prosecutor demanded for the defendant a penalty in the form of a fine amounting to 4.5 million roubles and deprivation of his right to work in public service during the period of three years.

Sergey Levchenko was found guilty under Article "personal receiving a bribe by an official person in the form of money for connivance of service". He was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of conditional imprisonment with a 1-year probation period.

Besides, Colonel was deprived of the right to be appointed to positions in public service, related to fulfilment of functions to a public agent in local authorities, state and municipal institutions for the period of two years, the "161.ru" reports.
