Makhachkala: militants surrender under guarantees of adaptation commission

The members of the armed underground Nariman Mirzamagomedov and Telman Gadjimustafaev, who were blocked in the capital of Dagestan, have surrendered under the guarantees of the commission under the president of the republic set up to help people who decided to stop their terrorist and extremist activities to adapt to peaceful life.

The counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the evening on October 14 in the township Novy of Makhachkala and resumed on the following morning. After negotiations, the two suspected militants surrendered to the authorities. According to the Russian NAC (National Antiterrorist Committee), Mirzamagomedov, 41, is one of the leaders of the "Derbent" bandit grouping, and Gadjimustafaev, 24, was its active member.

Sevil Novruzova, a member of the adaptation commission, and parents of Mirzamagomedov and Gadjimustafaev urged to surrender under the guarantees. "We told them through their relatives that we were ready to consider their appeal to the commission," said Novruzova. "The parents contacted the militants, and Nariman Mirzamagomedov and Telman Gadjimustafaev answered that should the head of the commission Rizvan Kurbanov promise, they would surrender under his guarantee."

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from the head of the commission Rizvan Kurbanov, the first deputy prime minister of Dagestan, that this case of militants' voluntary surrender demonstrates a "failure of arguments of those who say that in Dagestan power agents prefer to act solely by force."
