Militaries from "Vostok" battalion ask Medvedev to intervene in situation in South Ossetia

More than one hundred military men from the battalion "Vostok" (East) appealed with an open letter to Dmitry Medvedev, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Russian Federation. They ask the leader of the state to intervene in situation in South Ossetia.

The military men, who took part in military operations in the republic in 2008, argue that, at present, the people of South Ossetia are subjected to repression by its very leadership.

Officers, top sergeants, sergeants, and regular soldiers from the battalion "Vostok" expressed their indignation on attitude of the leadership of South Ossetia to its citizens and to citizens of the Russian Federation.

"Recently, several delegations from Russia were not allowed to enter the territory of the republic. At the same time, at a checkpoint, firearms were directed at Russian citizens. They were threatened and humiliated. On the eve of the election, the Republic of South Ossetia is on the verge of civil war due to actions of the current authorities," the "Yuga.ru" quotes the text of the letter.

The military men explain their concern by the fact that events occurring in South Ossetia could destabilize the situation in the entire Caucasus region.

"We ask you to intervene in the situation and thus ensure the stability and prosperity in the Caucasus," the military men urge.

The letter was signed by 106 persons.

Response from the leadership of the republic and the Russian authorities has not yet followed.
