KBR: rally in memory of casualties of the attack on Nalchik

Today, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has held mourning ceremonies on the occasion of the next anniversary of the militants' attacks on Nalchik on October 13, 2005.

At 11 a.m. in the Militia Mini-Park in Nalchik, a rally was held, attended by the head of the republic Arsen Kanokov, members of the government, officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the KBR, and activists of religious and public organizations of Kabardino-Balkaria, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Mr Kanokov thanked the relatives of the perished militiamen for raising such sons. "We will always remember them," said the head of the republic.

After the memorial rally in the Militia Mini-Park, the participants laid flowers at the monument to the law enforcers who perished in discharge of their duties.

A meeting at the MIA of the KBR was also dedicated to the mourning date. The sixteen employees of the MIA, who perished this year on their posts, were posthumously decorated with the Order of Courage by the decree of the President of Russia. The awards were given to their relatives.

This year, in the territory of the KBR, in total, 25 law enforcers perished; of them, 16 were employees of the MIA. As noted by Sergey Vasiliev, Interior Minister of the KBR, in his address to the audience, social support of their families remains among the top priorities both of the Russian MIA, and the president and the government of the KBR.

"This year, the families of the perished militiamen have received 8.5 million roubles of material help and 19 housing certificates. Besides, by the order of the government of the KBR, every family of perished militiaman will receive another 10,000 roubles till the end of the year," said the Minister.

He assured that the Ministry would do the utmost to support these families, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
