Khasavyurt court considers lawsuit of rights defender Nasurdin Rasulov on protection of his honour and dignity

Today, the Khasavyurt City Court is considered a civil lawsuit lodged by Nasurdin Rasulov, a human rights defender from Khasavyurt and the lawyer of the public organization named "Fighter for Justice" on protection of his honour and dignity.

In 2009, a criminal case was initiated against Rasulov under Article 306, part 2, of the Russian Criminal Code - "knowingly false denunciation". For a whole year the activist was under investigation; then, in October 2010, the case was cancelled as illegal.

"However, the investigator and the inquirer suffered no punishment, even though their actions are subject to specific articles of the Criminal Code," Nasurdin Rasulov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He filed a lawsuit aiming to restore justice and compensate his moral harm.

Earlier Rasulov had appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which accepted his complaint to consideration.
