In Makhachkala, relatives of people detained at rally demand to release them

Today, at 5:00 p.m., relatives, friends and supporters of people arrested yesterday, on October 3, at the rally, organized a picket near the building of the ROVD (District Interior Division) of Soviet District of Makhachkala. The picket was attended by about 40 people. They demand immediate release of all detainees. Authorities did not respond yet.

On October 3, at 11:00 a.m., nationwide anti-corruption rally, which was attended, according to its organizers, by more than 500 people, was held next to the Mayoralty of the city of Makhachkala. At the end of the action, the protestors were dispersed by law enforcement agents. Several protesters were detained.

About an hour after the start of the picket, the protesters were approached by the police officers – some of them were dressed in uniform, and some – in civilian clothes. Without using force, they asked to clean the area.

The protesters went to some distance from the building of the ROVD.

The lawyer Rasul Kadiev and Khadjimurat Kamalov, CEO of the LLC "Svoboda Slova" entered the building. According to Rasul Kadiev, conditions of detention are "terrible". "Nine people are kept in a room sized 2x2 meters. I got telephone calls from relatives of some detainees, and, according to the procedure, I completed five orders and handed them to the office. People do not even know why they were detained, a complete mess there rules here," Rasul Kadiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At the moment, three detainees were convicted and released; whose cases against three other detainees are considered by the magistrate court of the Soviet District of Makhachkala.

The Soviet ROVD reported that the remaining detainees would be kept at the ROVD until tomorrow, since the judge did not have time to consider all the cases.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), 28 people from the rally were brought to the police station of the Soviet District of Makhachkala; protocols of administrative violations were completed against them – for violating the order and disobeying the police officers.
