In Kalmykia, parents of children HIV-infected in 1988 recognized as victims

In Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, nine persons, who suffered because of the mass HIV-infection of children in late 1988, have been officially recognized as victims.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in mid-September Kalmykia cancelled the statement to stop the criminal case on infected children in 1988; so now their parents may hope for compensation.

For nearly a quarter century, the families of the infected children have hopelessly demanded from the government to pay compensations for their moral harm. In June, they filed a lawsuit to the Elista City Court.

So far, nine persons may hope to get compensations.

"The investigation has been reopened; we are working to establish all the victims. In particular, we questioned the initiative group of nine persons, who had approached us with their applications; the have been recognized as victims and received the relevant documents. They can fully exercise their rights," the "Channel One" quotes Denis Minin, Head of the Investigatory Department for the Republic of Kalmykia of the ICRF.

The criminal case was reopened after parents had addressed Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the ICRF.

The investigation was entrusted to the investigator for especially important cases of the above Department of the ICRF, the ITAR-TASS reports.
