Armenian opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan to stay in tent camp at night

About a thousand protesters continue their action under the rain in Freedom Square. The opposition has set up a tent camp, where Levon Ter-Petrosyan, ex-president of Armenia and the leader of the ANC (Armenian National Congress) is going to stay over the night.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after many-thousand-strong protest action held on September 30 in central Yerevan, the ANC decided to hold a week-long round-the-clock rally. It was reported that the opposition began erecting a tent camp in Freedom Square.

As of 10 p.m. Moscow time, 15 tents were installed in the centre of the Armenian capital, inhabited by participants of the sitting strike. They represent regional ANC structures from Gyumri, Idjevan Egvard, Bagramyan, and different communities of Yerevan, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the venue.

The ANC leader and the former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan is currently in the square together with Stepan Demirchyan, the leader of the People's Party and an employee of the central office of the ANC.

The coordinator of the ANC Levon Zurabyan told the audience in the square about the outcome of his meeting with Gagik Minasyan, a representative of the delegation of the ruling coalition, a member of the ruling Republican Party.

During the negotiations, Mr Zurabyan told the member of the ruling party that the ANC was ready to resume the talks. In his turn, Mr Minasyan said that he would surely convey this decision to Davit Arutyunyan, the head of the ruling party's delegation, who is now in Strasbourg.

Let us add here that the situation in central Yerevan remains generally calm. The police made a statement that policemen would not impede the movement of the participants of the rally. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that currently the streets, adjacent to Freedom Square, are patrolled by about 15 police cars.
