Labourites urge UN to react to "Anglo-Americanization" of Georgia

The Labour Party of Georgia asks the UN committee on discrimination "to investigate the issue of discrimination of the Georgian language and adopt a resolution against the Anglo-American colonization of Georgia."

As stated by Giorgi Gugava, the political secretary of the Labour Party, Georgia "is watching the destructive process of Anglicanisation of the future generation," which, according to Labourites, assumes expulsion of the Georgian language, history, religion and fundamental education away from schools.

A special address to the above UN Committee demands to study the facts of oppression from the United States and their companions of the Georgian language, education and culture, and to adopt special resolution on termination of total Anglicanisation of Georgia, the IA "News Georgia" reports.

Earlier, the Labour Party of Georgia had called pupils, students and teachers to refuse from mandatory studying English and accused the authorities of ignoring the Georgian language.

"We demand to stop persecution of the Georgian language, and encourage pupils and teachers to refuse from forced learning English," the "Georgia-Online" quotes Soso Shatberashvili, General Secretary of the Labour Party, as saying.
