BCA dismisses appeal on Gadjiev's lawsuit against GPO of Azerbaijan

Today, at its session chaired by Judge Gail Mamedov the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) dismissed the appeal complaint lodged on the lawsuit of Bakhtiyar Gadjiev, a youth activist, serving his prison term, against the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan.

The lawsuit was filed after the GPO's refusal to investigate the facts of physical violence against Gadjiev during his detention by policemen in the city of Gandzha on March 4. However, on July 20, the Sabail District Court dismissed the lawsuit of the youth activist, and he then lodged an appeal.

The BCA, same as the first instance court, held its session behind closed doors, as Vugar Gadjiev, the activist's brother, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The trial of Bakhtiyar Gadjiev was held without his advocates, as the activist voluntarily refused from them defended his rights at the trial himself.

Thus, no details of the trial are known. Vugar Gadjiev told only that the session lasted for about two hours; and the BCA upheld the decision of the first instance court.

The BCA confirmed the outcome but refrained from comments, saying that "in a couple of days relatives and lawyers of the claimant will receive the text of the decision."
