In Chechnya, "Grozvodokanal" workers complain about salary debts

Employees of the Grozny-based organization "Grozvodokanal" (water supply and sewage) cannot receive their several months' salary. Workers of another entity – the Unitary Enterprise "Spetsstroy" – have again complained of their employers.

"Only two-three days remaining till the holiday Eid ul-Fitr, but we can't get out salaries for June and July, although it is time already to pay us for August," one of the workers of the "Grozvodokanal", who preferred to remain anonymous, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, at the end of last week workers of the "Grozvodokanal" staged a protest action; however, they failed to enforce their demands.

The above worker said that when his disgruntled colleagues accused the chief accountant that she was to blame of the situation, the woman said that there was nobody in the republic able to sack her. "We want to gather at the company's central office and demand to solve the problem with debts to us.

We also tried to draw attention of television to our situation; however, this is fruitless so far," said the source.

Aminat Birsanova, Chief Accountant of the "Grozvodokanal", admits that there are actual salary debts for two months. According to her story, they appeared as result of the company's former huge indebtedness on taxes, when the accounts of the organization were arrested.

The "Spetsstroy" workers have not been paid since May this year. "Last week they promised to pay our May wages, but so far the issue was not settled. When the entire indebtedness will be repaid, nobody knows," a source from that company told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
