Georgia starts evicting refugees out of Zugdidi

The refugees inhabiting Block No. 1 of the kindergarten, located in the city of Zugdidi in Gamsakhurdia Street, are leaving the building. Twelve families are resettled into the new residential area in the city of Poti.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 16 the authorities of Zugdidi began registering the refugees from Abkhazia accommodated in the former commissariat building. The Georgian Ministry on Refugee Matters offered them to move to Poti, where new houses were built for forced migrants.

The eviction of refugees was to start on August 5; however, then, the refugees put forward three main demands: to delay resettlement; to have a prior examination of new housing facilities and putting neighbours into one block.

According to Ruslan Sadjaya, a refugee, despite non-fulfilment of the above demands, he and his neighbours have agreed today to move to Maltakva, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
