Since late 2010, village of Vedzatkhevi in Georgia has no road access to outside world due to landslides

The village of Vedzatkhevi of Dusheti District (Georgia), inhabited by 29 families, is isolated from the outside world for nine months already due to the landslides which damaged the only road. The local residents can reach the regional centre only on foot.

According to Nona Kapiashvili, a local resident, the village was allocated 7000 laris under the assistance programme. The villagers decided to repair the road.
At the same time, according to Lasha Djanashvili, the head of the municipality of the town of Dusheti, the village of Vedzatkhevi is located in the landslide area, and the municipality intends to relocate the local residents to a different location, the radio "Ekho Kavkaza" (Echo of the Caucasus) reports.

"We have already appealed to the Ministry for Internally Displacement Persons, Resettlement and Refugees, and we will do our best to solve this problem in the shortest possible time," said Lasha Djanashvili.
