In Ingushetia, custody conditions in IVS and SIZO get better, commission of human rights activists and Public Chamber assert

In general, keeping conditions in IVS (temporary isolation facilities) and SIZO (pre-trial prisons) of Ingushetia are satisfactory; however, there are some problems in air-conditioning and lighting of the wards, where prisoners are kept. This was found out by the commission of human rights activists and members of the Public Chamber.

The commission composed of human rights activists, journalists, and members of the Public Chamber visited all IVS in Ingushetia and the SIZO in the city of Karabulak.

"We visited temporary isolation facilities in the cities of Nazran, Malgobek and in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya and the pre-trial prison in Karabulak. We entered each ward and asked whether the prisoners had any complaints. The prisoners expressed no criticism of the IVS employees' attitude, the food or the keeping conditions," said Bagaudin Khadziev, Deputy Chairman of the Public Supervising Commission of the Republic of Ingushetia.

"Earlier, there were many cases of lawlessness, beatings, and mockeries; now the people who are kept in detention facilities, feel respect towards themselves, every Thursday the clergymen visit them and conduct sermons and conversations. I believe our work will help to change the entire system for the better," said Ruslan Badalov, the head of the regional movement "Chechen Committee for National Salvation".
