Next rally demanding to open "Gimry-Chirkata" Tunnel planned for August 15

On August 15 the residents of the nine mountainous districts of Dagestan will come to the rally demanding to open the "Gimry-Chirkata" Tunnel for automobile traffic, which was closed on August 3.

"The protest action will have a larger scale. Today, nobody works in the tunnel, although the authorities solemnly promised us that after the tunnel's closing on August 3 the construction works will be immediately started. Of course, the works should be done; however, at least 2-3 hours should be left for the passage of vehicles. It's just a mockery, when thousands and thousands of mountainous residents make a huge detour, especially now, when the Muslim holy month of Ramadan has started. It's good that at least the heat slackened," Nurmagomedov, a resident of the village of Gimry, explained the reasons for the rally to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Starting August 3, the "Gimry-Chirkata" Tunnel was fully closed for the passage of vehicles, and, according to the authorities, the construction works began inside the tunnel.

On August 5 the Dagestani leader Magomedsalam Magomedov during the meeting in the highway "Gimry-Chirkata" Tunnel announced that the tunnel might be open ahead of schedule, in July 2012, in case the constructions would not be hindered. According Mr Magomedov, the project has no problems with financing.
