The builders who constructed a sports complex in Grozny report non-payment of their salaries

The workers who took part in the construction of the sports complex named after late Head of Chechnya Ahmat Kadyrov, the biggest one in Northern Caucasus, report that they have not received the promised salary although ceremonial opening of the complex took place in Grozny yet in May.

The workers themselves say that “people at the top give idle promises or think of different getaways”. “For more than three months did I work at the building site of this stadium. We had to work not only in the daytime but at night, too”, local resident Musa T. said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

“Our construction gang did tile paving and our supervisor promised that as soon as we lay the last tile he would pay us all our salary immediately, - the man says. – But when the construction was over he suddenly declared that 800 square meters of expensive tile allegedly disappeared and for that reason he could not settle accounts with us at the moment. Today we are still waiting for our salary and our supervisor has bought a chic car and a flat in the center of the town”.

According to a woman resident of Grozny Kheda S., her construction gang did plastering in the territory of the sports complex. “There were seven of us and we should have received 30 thousand rubles (a little more than one thousand dollars) each. They first promised to repay after termination of all the works, then after opening of the stadium, now they are keeping silence at all. I do not even know how to make them pay the due money to us. The foreman sends us back to the taskmaster, the latter advices us to appeal to the chief of the section and so on. Everyone just promises but nobody really does anything, - she complains. – Now they say that we may get no money at all because it was transferred to reconstruction of Kadyrov avenue in the center”.

The management of the contracting agency produces no comments on the workers’ statements and an official of the Ministry of Construction of Chechnya declared that all the necessary assets both on construction works and on payment of the salary to the workers who took part in construction of the sports complex named after Ahmat Kadyrov were “remitted and exploited in time”.

“You should appeal to respective law enforcement bodies about the delay of payment. The funds allotted have been exploited completely”, the official assures.
