The authorities of Grozny decided to speed up reconstruction of the central avenue by means of subbotniks

Reconstruction works in the central street of Chechen capital, Ahmat Kadyrov avenue, are going much behind of schedule. The authorities intend to speed up the process by means of organizing large-scale subbotniks (days of unpaid work on the weekend).

Compete reconstruction was expected to be accomplished by August, 15, and opening of the renewed object was planned for August, 23, birthday of late Head of Chechnya.

However, a lot of work still remains unfinished, beginning with facing part of the buildings with natural stone and up to laying the paving tile and asphalt covering.

“Reconstruction of the avenue named after Ahmat Kadyrov is gaining strength and speed. Construction gangs are working in three shifts, additional work force and special techniques have been involved. However, the work is going much behind of schedule. Subbotniks will be organized for acceleration in the rates”, an official of Grozny municipal Administration said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to him, Head of the Republic Ramzan Kadyrov issued this instruction at the end of last week. After inspection of the avenue he was extremely displeased with a slow pace of reconstruction.

A number of state employees disliked the news that they would have to take part in new large-scale subbotniks. “Everyone should mind one's own business: builders must build, employees of communal services must scavenge etc. But here if a person works at a public institution he or she is regarded as something like unpaid labour force used by the authorities of the republic the way they like”, an employee of one of the district administrations of Grozny says”.
