An international symposium of sculptors passed off in Nagorno-Karabakh

On July, 28, the First International Symposium of Sculptors finished its work in the town of Shushi, Nagorno-Karabakh. According to sculptor from Italy Vigen Avetis, author of the project and organizer of the symposium, it has been successful and he is pleased that his idea to undertake this action came true.

“The first task was accomplished and 15 sculptures created within a short period, during the symposium, testify to that”, Vigen Avetis said.

Lucianno Preti, professor of Art Academy of Florence, assured that he had put the traditions, the will and the history of Armenian people into his work.

“During the days spent in Karabakh I realized what kind of country it was and what kind of people lived here. I have expressed all these in my work. There is no aggression is my sculpture, there is only this people’s desire to protect their Motherland”, Preti said.

Roberto Javanelli, professor of Art Academy of Florence, pointed out that he discovered Nagorno-Karabakh for himself as a country with a lot of architectural values. “They will remain in my soul and help me in my creative work in the future”, Javanelli said and expressed his desire to come to Nagorno-Karabakh once again.

Ashot Gulyan, Speaker of the Parliament of Nagorno-Karabakh, remarked that “since 1988 Nagorno-Karabakh was probably seen by the world community as a country where there was a conflict”. “But now it is time to conceive Nagorno-Karabakh as a country where there is art and show our art and our creative people to the World”, the Speaker said.

15 sculptors from Italy and four young sculptors from Nagorno-Karabakh took part in the symposium. All the works created during the symposium were presented to the town of Shushi.
