Group of foreigners from eight countries go on pilgrimage to Nagorno-Karabakh

35 persons from eight countries of the world – Britain, Germany, France, Holland, USA, Australia, Nigeria and South Africa – make a pilgrimage to Nagorno-Karabakh, initiated by Baroness Caroline Cox. Ms Cox herself said that the pilgrimage was organized in honour of the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia and the 20th anniversary of independence of Nagorno Karabakh.

"The Armenians were the first Christians, and the earliest churches were Armenian ones, therefore, your country meets all the requirements for the pilgrimage. I'm sure that in these days all participants will know the truth about the Armenian nation and the true history of the Armenian land," said Caroline Cox, a member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Pierre Okussi from Nigeria said that he came to Nagorno-Karabakh to see people living there, find out about their needs and problems, and that he, as a Christian, would like to help the country now and, perhaps, in the future.

Pilgrims will walk 250 km. "We make 20-30 km per day. We spend nights in our tents in the open air. We started our way at the city of Berdzor of Kashatag District, through Stepanakert. We will go through Askeran Disrict and finish our pilgrimage at the monastery of Gandzasar in Mardakert District," said the head of the event.

Participants of the pilgrimage plan to visit all the historical monuments and the churches of Nagorno-Karabakh, which are located on their route, meet ordinary people and public activists and communicate with them.
