Two alpinists from Poland got lost in Elbrus

Two Polish alpinists got lost on July, 21, on the Northern slope of Elbrus, Head of Press service of North-Caucasian regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia Kantemir Davydov reported.

“At about 19:50 Moscow time Head of North-Caucasian regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia received a message from one of the guides working in Elbrus running that two Polish alpinists, Roman Kuznyar aged 58 and Yatsik Krantz got lost at the Northern slope of the mountain”, Davydov said.

According to Head of Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the alpinists were last seen at eight o’clock in the morning in the near the rocks of Letz when they were walking together with their compatriot, sixty-nine-year-old Marek Kolochevsky. “Kolochevsky refused continuing the ascent and went down together with another group of alpinists and the two other Poles went on climbing ignoring the warning that the weather was worsening”, he added.

Davidov specified that the missing alpinists had no warm equipment and food with them and refused to mount with a group which had a professional guide, RIA “Novosti” reports.

Davydov also said that the guides saw two lights at the slope of Elbrus that possibly belonged to the two lost alpinists. The lights can be seen from the distance of 3700 meters height and four guides and alpinists went in the direction the lights, “Interfax” reports.
