Georgia to set up parliamentary commission for inquiring pressure on journalists

A new faction in the Parliament of Georgia "Unity for Justice" initiates the establishment of the temporary Investigatory Parliamentary Commission to investigate the facts of persecution of journalists.

"The faction intends to use all the levers to call to the Parliament senior officials, who publicly and openly will be asked tough and sharp questions. Vano Merabishvili, Minister of Internal Affairs, and Zurab Adeishvili, Minister of Justice, should be among the first officials to be called to the Parliament," said at the briefing Dmitry Lordkipanidze, Secretary of the faction.

According to MP Djondi Bagaturiya, the faction intends to consider vexed social problems – the increase of pensions to the subsistence minimum, the issue of free medical policy for poor citizens and financial amnesty for those who have debts on their utility bills.
