Committee for adaptation of gunmen will solicit for Gazimagomedov’s serving his penalty in Dagestan

Zaipulla Gazimagomedov, former emir of Levashi group, fellow fighter of the leader of Dagestani gunmen Magomedali Vagabov killed in August, 2010, appealed to the Committee for adaptation of gunmen asking to allow him serve his penalty in the territory of Dagestan.

The appeal was considered on July, 14, in Makhachkala, at a session of the Committee for aid in adaptation of persons who decided to stop their terrorist and extremist activities in the territory of the republic to peaceful life. The session was headed by the First Vice-premier of the Government of Dagestan Rizvan Kurbanov.

Zaipulla Gazimagomedov, resident of Levashi district, was detained in 2010 in the settlement of Gunib, during a special operation of neutralization of leader of Dagestani underground Magomedali Vagabov, Dokku Umarov’s first assistant. Gazimagomedov was a member of Gubden subversive terrorist group and in May, 2010, Vagabov appointed him leader of Levashi subversive terrorist group.

Gazimagomedov was accused on a number of clauses of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation, among them participation in a criminal community. The court brought its verdict taking into consideration Gazimagomedov’s pretrial agreement of collaboration with the investigation, therefore the penalty was imposed much milder then the lower limit stipulated by the law.

In his appeal to the Committee for adaptation of gunmen Zaipulla Gazimagomedov wrote that he repented of what he had done, agreed with the judgment and was only asking for a permission to serve his penalty in the territory of Dagestan.

After a short discussion the members of the Committee decided to solicit before Federal Penal Service to let Gazimagomedov serve his penalty in the territory of Dagestan.

“It was not at all an easy decision for the Committee taking into account the attitude towards the killed leader of the gunmen Vagabov in Dagestan, - Chairman of the Committee Rizvan Kurbanov said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. – But by this example we want to show that the authorities of the republic are ready for a dialogue with all those who have “gone to the forest” and once again call to all of them to lay down arms”.
