Over 15 men are suspected of raping 14-year-old girl in Kabardino-Balkaria

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Police Colonel Yuri Begidov, head of the Chegem ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), that 15 persons are checked for involvement in raping a 14-year-old girl from the village of Nartan in Kabardino-Balkaria: suspects' DNA an other analyses are made.

"To our knowledge, all the suspects are from one circle of persons and are in our field of vision as criminals," said Colonel Begidov. "This is an unprecedented crime for the Chegem District; therefore, given its resonance, both we and the Investigatory Committee intend to complete the inquiry as soon as possible and send the case to the court."

According to his story, the rapists were of different ages. "Different figurants will be subject to different measures; some of them are 18, others are younger," said Yuri Begidov. "That is why, different articles will be used."

The mother of the injured girl told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she could not find any support or understanding in the situation. "Only today I received a call from the Nalchik 'Crisis Centre' and an offer to render psychological and psychotherapeutic aid to my daughter."

According to her story, neighbours and fellow villagers blame herself and her daughter of the incident. "People, in general, condemn us; they believe that we ourselves are guilty," said Natalia, the girl's mother. "According to them, we had invented all that in order to earn money. This cannot be the case, they say and urge us to recall the application."

According to the raped girl, over 15 persons kept raping her for two weeks, she has already identified some of them. "We were visited by the father of one boy, aged 16. The boy has passed to the 11th form," said the mother. "The father asked to forgive his son and offered financial support."

Immediately after initiation of the criminal case, the 14-year old girl was allowed to have an abortion. "For a long time she didn't tell me the truth; she was ashamed and cried all the time. And only some time later I managed to learn the details of that nightmare. The girl was so nervous that gnawed all her nails; the child needs help!" said Natalia.

She added with reference to the investigator that the suspects were confessing, but blamed the girl of the incident. "They say that my daughter wanted it herself", said the woman.
