“The New Rights” and “Christian Democrats” in Georgia left the “oppositional octad”

Two parties in Georgia which insisted on joint negotiations with the ruling party on revision of Electoral code of the country left the “oppositional octad”. “Christian Democrats” and “The New Rights” decided to sign an agreement on electoral issues with the ruling party “United National Movement”.

Two more parties, “Industry will save Georgia” and “National Democratic party” who had not been members of the “octad” before signed a similar agreement.

The agreement was offered by the ruling party on June, 26, during individual consultations with these two parties. In particular, it included the authorities’ suggestion that only the parties who overcome the 5% barrier would get a compensation of expenses on their election campaign to a sum of one million lari. In addition, the ruling party “United National Movement” insisted that only those election winners who sign the offered agreement would receive the compensation.

Eight political parties: “The New Rights”, “National Forum”, “The Way of Georgia” “The Conservative Party”, “The Republican Party”, “Christian Democratic Movement” (“Christian Democrats”), “Free Democrats” and “The People’s Party” represented the opposition at the consultation on changing the electoral environment.
