Dagestan: mother of teenager beaten by policemen complains of pressure

The mother of the teenager, who was beaten in June 2009 by employees of the Shamil ROVD (District Interior Division) of Dagestan, said that she and her son were forced to sign papers that the suffered party had no claims to two out of the three defendants. The defendants themselves, who had lodged a cassation complaint against their sentence, deny the fact of pressure, insisting on their innocence on the case.

Let us remind you that at night on July 19, 2010, in the building of the ROVD in the village of Khebda, Shamil District of Dagestan, several policemen beat up a teenager. He was forced to confess of stealing a drill. As a result, as claimed by his relatives, the boy became deaf in one ear. The investigation of the case lasted for 10 months. The employees of the MIA Magomed Magomedov, Gamzat Nurudinov and Shamil Magomedov faced the justice; they refused to plead guilty.

On May 20, the court delivered its verdict, according to which Shamil Magomedov was sentenced to 2.5 years of conditional imprisonment with one-year probation period; Gamzat Nurudinov was sentenced to three years of imprisonment with a year of probation. The main defendant – the district militiaman Magomed Magomedov was sentenced to four years of imprisonment with two years of probation and a ban to work in law enforcement bodies.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Aishat Guseinova, the mother of the beaten boy, that her family turns out to experience a lot of pressure; therefore, she applied to the district court asking to protect her family.

Aishat Guseinova said that her son and herself were forced to sign a supplement to the cassation complaint to the Judicial Board on Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, which had been filed by the defendants against the sentence of the Shamil District Court.

According to her story, Gamzat Nurudinov and Shamil Magomedov came to their home with their lawyer, began threatening her and brought the supplement to the complaint allegedly written by her son and saying that the suffered party had no claims to Shamil Magomedov and Nurudinov, and that the teenager had slandered them because he often saw them together with the main culprit Magomed Magomedov, to whom the suffered party had the main claims.

Guseinova and her son were forced under pressure to sign the above supplement to the complaint.

One of the accused – Gamzat Nurudinov – has completely denied the fact of putting pressure on the victims. "Why do I need all that, don't I know the laws? I have suffered for nothing without that. At any time and anywhere I can swear that we did not exert any pressure and I can prove how the complaint was really written," Nurudinov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
