Georgian NGOs demand investigation of dispersal of oppositional rally on May 26

The Georgian NGOs "Priority of Human Rights" and "Network of Caucasian Women" have addressed their special statement to the Chief Public Prosecutor of Georgia, demanding to investigate the use of excessive force by the police in the course of the crackdown of the oppositional rally on May 26, 2011.

"We demand to hold efficient, impartial and full-fledged investigations with the aim to identify and adequately punish all those guilty, proceeding from the rule of law and supremacy of justice," said the press service of the NGO "Priority of Human Rights".

On June 20, the spokesman of the General Prosecutor's Office said that the inquiry was on in relation to individual law enforcers on the facts of use of excessive force. The "News-Georgia" reports that the above NGOs have addressed Murtaz Zodelava, Chief Public Prosecutor, asking him to provide information about the course of the inquiry.
