Georgian MPs demand require extradition of Irakli Okruashvili

Irakli Okruashvili, the leader of the "Georgian Party", should be brought to Georgian justice. The deputy Guram Chakhvadze stated that in the course of today's plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia.

"Okruashvili has encroached on Georgia's statehood. Accordingly, the representatives of the Georgian government should take into account. We believe that now Georgia should demand that France must deliver Georgia Irakli Okruashvili," said Chakhvadze.

On June 23 the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MIA) of Georgia announced detention of an organized criminal group consisted of eight people, some of whom were associated with the opposition "Georgian Party". According to the MIA, the detainees were trying to create an armed group in support of Irakli Okruashvili, the ex- Minister of Defence of Georgia, during his return to the country from Russia.

The MIA of Georgia disseminated the records, in which a detainee Giorgi Saatashvili, the ex-officer of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, told that, together with the detachment of two hundred Russian special forces fighters the detained oppositionists were first to attack the Georgian checkpoints at the "line of occupation", and then the special forces base in the village of Karaleti and the police office in the city of Gori.

The "Georgian Party" named the MIA accusation an absurdity. Detainees' relatives also consider the accusations groundless.
