Dagestan hosts rallies demanding to open Gimry-Chirkata Tunnel

Today, several villages of Dagestan held rallies in support of the demand to open unimpeded automobile traffic through the above tunnel. The hunger strike in support of the demand was stopped, since it is planned that from July 21 the tunnel will operate for 10 hours a day.

Akhmednabi Gadjiev, a resident of the village of Karata, Akhvakh District, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the rally in his village adopted an appeal to the leadership of Dagestan with a demand to open the motor traffic in the tunnel.

"When the tunnel is closed, residents of the area have to make a very long detour and suffer financial losses and from higher prices. Therefore, the appeal to the Dagestani president, prime minister and speaker of the parliament was adopted unanimously," said Gadjiev.

Murtuz Gasangadjiev, a resident of the village of Botlikh, Botlikh District, said that a similar rally was also held in Botlikh and also adopted an appeal to the authorities.

Appeals asking to open the tunnel were also passed by parishioners of several mosques in Makhachkala, Khasavyurt and other dwelling settlements.

At the same time, the hunger strike held near the village of Gimry, Untsukul District, against the closure of the tunnel was stopped because an agreement had been reached to open the tunnel from July 21 for five hours in the morning and for five hours in the evening.
