Georgian authorities must conduct comprehensive inquiry into dispersal of rally on May 26, US Congressmen believe

A complete investigation of the events on May 26, when in the capital of Georgia policemen dispersed the opposition rally of the "People's Assembly", "would enhance public confidence in the government and parliament," said Congressman David Dreyer, head of the US delegation, speaking at a briefing in the Georgian parliament.

The delegation of US Congressmen, headed by Republican David Dreyer, arrived in Georgia on June 4. Today, the high-ranking guests are holding meetings in the parliament.

According to the senator, should an incident like the one that happened in Georgia on May 26 had happened in the USA, it should have been investigated; and the Congress should have held hearings. David Dreyer also said that he possesses information about what happened on May 26 in Tbilisi in Rustaveli Avenue.

"The congressmen also expressed their concern about the tense situation around the occupied territories and the threat of provocations emanating from the occupied regions. They reiterated their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia," said Anikashvili.
